Sculptra Treatments

Our bodies are budding with collagen, a protein found in our bones, ligaments and skin. It offers structure and support to our bodies and skin, providing a youthful glow. However, as we age, our skin produces less collagen and is targeted by free radicals. This causes the skin to sag and lose shape.

In recent years, collagen has emerged as a powerhouse ingredient that can restore skin elasticity and firmness. But one of the best treatments for this is Sculptra, a collagen biostimulator that inserts a collagen stimulator into the skin to encourage collagen production and aesthetic results.

What is a collagen biostimulator?

A collagen biostimulator is a minimally invasive procedure that smooths wrinkles and adds structure to the skin.

Sculptra is a collagen biostimulator that emerged in 1999 to initially treat lipoatrophy, a condition that causes the face to become sunken from facial fat loss. It contains poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), which helps to stimulate collagen production in the skin and promotes a firm and plump look.

Dr Lesego offers Sculptra treatments to patients seeking a youthful appearance, fewer wrinkles and plump features.

Sculptra treatment procedure: what to expect

The Sculptra procedure is similar to that of receiving botox or dermal fillers. Dr Lesego will map out the injection sites on your face before cleaning the area and preparing the injection with either one or two vials. She may apply a topical anaesthetic to ease any discomfort.

Dr Lesego will inject the Sculptra treatment containing PLLA into the areas of the face that require collagen stimulation. Once complete, she will clean your face, and you can resume normal activities immediately after. Dr Lesego will advise on any specific care instructions after the procedure. Each session can take 30-45 minutes.

You may notice plumpness in your face immediately, but full results typically take a few months to show. Dr Lesego will discuss the number of sessions required in your initial consultation, depending on your needs and skin condition.
